This 25-gram bag of Orange Thermochromic Paint powder is a fantastic pigment for your custom paint projects! It’s called a thermochromic pigment, which means that you can create captivating effects that shift colors as the temperature of the item changes. This Orange Thermochromic Paint is used in everything from toys and choppers to home interiors and can even be used to create energy efficient roofing that could change from black to white when the temperature rises! Mix it into any clear basecoat (such as a binder or color blender) and spray it over your desired graphics or base coat color. Please see our article, How To Mix Custom Paint. As you’ll see in that article about temperature change paint, this product requires plenty of UV protection in order to create a lasting effect in outdoor environments. We recommend using Wet Wet Plus clear or another highly UV protective clear for outdoor or exterior use. Due to the paint’s sensitivity to UV protection, we do not offer any warranty on its longevity, since that depends on your choice of topcoat. Tip: Using this Orange Thermochromic paint underneath Phantom Pearls® or Colorshift Pearls® will help to increase its tolerance to UV rays because the pearls are made with titanium oxide, which is a core ingredient in sunscreen. Thermochromics change color dramatically (even from black to white) as the temperature changes. Ours are designed to change color at 86 degrees Fahrenheit. This Orange Thermochromic Paint pigment is incredibly versatile, and is often used in everything from custom paint to clothing. You can see our pigments being used on anything from masks to motorcycles! Use this in your own testing for a unique custom application! Did you know that magicians use thermochromic pigments in magic tricks? Thermochromic paints change as the temperature changes. As the temperature increases, the pigment becomes colorless and reveals the base coat or any graphics underneath. In the video above, you can see a helmet with a white base coat and a black temperature-sensitive paint sprayed over it. In the video above, you will see BLACK THERMOCHROMIC over an orange base. In the second video, you’ll see how body heat can affect thermochromics in a rather amusing way. (See the videos above.) The videos above were provided by our customers who use our products. Check out their Youtube channels for more information. We suggest mixing our pigments with pearls to give your project more protection and a truly subtle finish. Check out the yellow to orange mouse shown above. Just mix this into a clear base (like a blender or a binder) and then spray it on. One 25-gram bag per sprayable quart of base clear will provide you with amazing temperature- or solar-change paint at an incredible price. Note: Thermochromic paints (temperature change) have a LOW UV TOLERANCE without proper protection, so for exterior paint, we recommend a clear coat like Wet Wet Plus clear or Dupont’s hc7776. No warranty can be given on this product, as this is a known issue and its longevity depends on the topcoat you use. While we don’t recommend it, one of our customers was able to use this pigment in powder coatings.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PROLONGED OUTDOOR USE.

We recommend starting with 1 25-gram bag per quart of sprayable clear paint/binder. These are all starting ratios and can be adjusted for your specific use. For the best results, mix one 25-gram bag into a pint of reducer and allow it to sit for 24 hours before mixing with one pint of clear paint to create a sprayable quart of material. This works best in an oil or solvent-based clear. Mixing with a water-based clear has not caused issues for us, but other customers have had problems with it. Contact us with any questions before mixing. Many customers have called to ask for a step-by-step guide for painting with this product. There are many factors that go into painting, but I have put together a basic guide:

  • Lay down your desired base coat color (white or brighter colors work best).
  • Mix a 25-gram bag of thermo into a pint of reducer and allow to sit for 24 hours.
  • Mix a pint of clear with the reducer to create one sprayable quart.
  • Spray 5-7 coats of thermo over the base coat color.
  • Apply 3-4 coats of a good UV top coat clear over it (you can also add a ghost pearl to the clear for extra UV protection).

Please remember that if you use this on a surface that will have prolonged UV exposure or high heat exposure, this pigment will begin to break down and fade to a hazy gray. Because of the UV and heat variables, we cannot offer any guarantees on the lifespan of this paint. These are factors we have no control over, and they will have an impact on the product’s longevity.
