This 25-gram bag of Iridescent Purple Blue Pearl powder is a wonderful special effects pigment that you can add to clear in custom paint or powder-coating applications. It’s guaranteed to mix smoothly with any clear paints or tinted candy paints and has a temperature threshold of about 1600 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s a very fine powder that sprays beautifully using airbrushes, powder guns, and HVLP paint guns. It’s also very light, so it stays well mixed in paint without settling too quickly, and can create a range of subtle or more intense effects (it’s your choice). One 25-gram bag treats from 2 to 4 quarts of clear. Note that it has more of a blue hue than our standard violet. Try mixing this with reducer and spraying it on its own. As long as you apply a clear coat over it soon afterwards, you can pearlize any vehicle for less!

With this in mind, anyone can easily turn an ordinary paint job into a pearl paint job. Instead of doing just a typical base-coat clear-coat paint job, you can add the pearl paint in the middle of the process, giving you the following structure; base-coat, ghost pearl paint, then clear-coat. We highly recommend that you make your own mixes and spray a test panel before beginning an entire project. We also recommend using a base clear or a binder to mix the pearls in before adding your final clears. Keep in mind that the final clear step is recommended for custom paint, and not for powder coating, gel coating, or faux finish. If you’re looking to do a project using these beautiful ghost pearls, we have a few suggestions about which colors look good over which base coats…

White base coat: Use any of the ghost pearls, keeping in mind that our red ghost pearl will create an iridescent pink look in the sun. Our blue, violet, orange, gold, and silver are the most popular colors to use on a white base coat.

Black base coat: You can use any of the ghost pearls, but if you use too much you risk the project taking on the color of the pearl and obscuring the black. To get a cool midnight color change effect, keep the ratio of pearl to about a teaspoon per quart in the clear base or binder. When powder coating, reduce the ratio to a tablespoon per pound and add more as needed.

Red, Burgundy, or Orange base coat: We highly recommend any of our gold ghost pearls, including the shimmer gold or the satin gold. Also, our blue pearl, red pearl, and violet pearls can create beautiful effects over the darker shades of red.

Blue base coats: For very light blues (like cornflower blue), we have seen exceptional results using gold ghost pearl, but for a cool color shift on any shades of blue, a violet ghost pearl will give you a cool purple color shift in the sun. Silver ghost pearl paint can also give you a very subtle effect to the darker blues. Green can also add an amazing pearl effect over most blue bases.
